Who we are
Quizzee Rascals (quizzeerascals.com) is run by Adam Thomas, trading as Quizzeerascals.com, in the United Kingdom. Adam is the "data controller" for the information described here. Questions or requests: hello@quizzeerascals.com.
The short version
- Players don't need an account -- just a nickname for the game.
- Hosts who sign in give us an email address (and, with Google sign-in, their name and photo).
- We keep what's needed to run quizzes. We don't sell data, show adverts or use tracking cookies.
- Google (Firebase and Google Cloud) and Vercel store and run things for us.
- You can ask us to see or delete what we hold about you.
What we keep
If you play
The nickname you type, your avatar (a built face, or a drawing you make), the answers, guesses and drawings you send, your reactions, and your score. These belong to that game and show on the shared screen and other players' phones.
Your phone is given an anonymous sign-in so the game knows which seat is yours. It isn't linked to your name, email or phone number. Your avatar and a few settings (like sound on or off) are remembered in your browser, not by us.
If you host
Your email address and sign-in details (with Google sign-in, also your name and profile photo), and what you make: quizzes, your question bank, any pictures, audio, logos or host photo you upload, and settings. We also record when each quiz was hosted and how its questions went (for example "50% got it right").
If you build before signing in, your work is kept under an anonymous sign-in on that browser until you sign in. Unsaved changes in the builder are kept in your browser.
If you subscribe
When paid plans open, our payment provider takes your payment. We never see or store your card details; we keep your plan, its status and the provider's customer reference.
Behind the scenes
Like any website, our hosting keeps short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses and error reports) to keep the service running and secure.
Why we use it
- To run the service you asked for -- hosting and playing quizzes, keeping hosts' work, and plans you pay for (the "contract" basis).
- To keep it working and safe -- stopping cheating and abuse, fixing faults, and knowing which questions work (our "legitimate interests").
- Because the law says so -- for example, keeping payment records for tax.
We don't use your data for advertising, and we don't sell or rent it to anyone.
Who helps us
- Google (Firebase and Google Cloud) -- sign-in, the database, file storage, and the voice host. With the voice host on, the words it reads (questions and round intros) are sent to Google to be turned into speech.
- Vercel -- hosts the website.
- Our payment provider -- once paid plans open.
They act on our instructions under data-processing terms. Some of their servers are outside the UK (for example in the US or EU); where that happens, the transfer is covered by the UK's approved safeguards (such as adequacy decisions or standard contract clauses).
How long we keep it
- Hosts' accounts and quizzes -- until you delete them or ask us to delete your account.
- Games (nicknames, avatars, answers, drawings, scores) -- kept with the game for now. We plan to clear out old games automatically, and we'll delete a game's data sooner if you ask.
- Payment records -- as long as tax law requires (usually six years).
Cookies and browser storage
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, or analytics that follow you around the web. We use your browser's storage for things the app needs: keeping you signed in, your seat in a game, your avatar, sound and light/dark settings, and unsaved builder work. Clearing your browser's site data removes them.
Children
Quizzes are often played by families. Players only need a nickname, so we suggest a first name or a made-up one. Host accounts are for people aged 13 or over. A host running a quiz for children should keep Family-friendly mode on, and can remove a player or reset a drawn avatar at any time.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to have a copy to take elsewhere. Email hello@quizzeerascals.com -- we'll reply within a month. Players don't have an account, so tell us the game (its code and date) and the nickname you used.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Changes
When what we collect changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Big changes will be flagged in the app.
